This is a romance novel I can recommend. It’s a historical novel based on the beautiful book of Esther. It’s also one of the few romance novels that I think does us girls more good than harm.
I have to say though that it’s more than romance novel, it’s a historical novel and it can help you visualise who Esther was (not that it’s necessary). Written as if it was Esther’s memoir, it follows her life story, starting not with Esther’s life story but with Saul’s disobedience ( 1 Samuel 15). As the story continues it sheds light on the historical context of the story.. (as in.. where was the rest of the world when this happened?). I don’t think I need to give a plot outline, read the book of Esther.
What I appreciated most about this book though was how the main character modelled the kind of girls we need to become (or the kind of girl guys should be looking out for), dependant on God.
All in all, it’s a good read, a nice idea for a night in. A word of warning: do not associate the movie with the book. The movie was a huge disappointment.
