Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
The letter to the Romans, chapter 8 verse 1 NIV
A Great Deliverance
- What great fact is mentioned in Romans 8:1?
No condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
- What does condemnation mean?
A sentence for punishment, here, the eternal punishment in hell.
- Why does it start with "Therefore"?
Because this verse sums up what goes before - in
Romans Chapter 7.
- What was that about?
About the conflict between good and bad in our mind.
- Why should there be a condemnation for us?
Because "I am a slave to the law of sin." meaning, I sin, disobey God.
- What is meant with the word "now" in this verse?
Whenever we have become one with Christ, the condemnation is removed.
An Essential Condition
- Who receive the freedom from condemnation?
Those who are "in Christ Jesus"
- What does it mean to be in Christ Jesus?
Being in union with Him as our head, united to Him as a branch is united
to the vine.
- Why is it necessary to be in Christ Jesus?
Because it is only by His merits we can satisfy God's law.
- What does the connection to the Lord Jesus do
for us?
It sets us free - no fear for the wrath of God, no condemnation.
