But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us
alive with Christ, even when we were dead in transgressions.
THe Letter to Hebrew Christians chapter 7 verse 25 NIV
A powerful Picture.
A complete Salvation
- Why does this verse start with "Therefore"?
To direct attention to a fact before given.
- Which fact does "therefore" refer to?
His permanent priesthood.
- With what is the priesthood of the Lord Jesus compared?
With the changing priesthood of the Levitical order.
- What is meant with that?
In the law of Moses, provision was made for priests and a highpriest
who would intercede on behalf of the God's people. Since the priests were
human, they died and the priesthood changed from father to son.
- What type of priest is the Lord Jesus?
He is a priest that never dies, a priest for ever.
- What is the Lord Jesus able to do as priest?
He is able to save completely.
- What type of salvation is meant here?
It is a salvation which end is sure: because He lives to intercede.
A direct Approach
- To whom is the Lord Jesus priest?
To those who come to God through Him.
- What is meant by coming to God?
Approaching God to praise Him, for forgiveness or for a blessing
- Under the Mosaic Law how did men draw near to God?
With sacrifices of animals, offered by the priest.
- How should we approach God?
Through our Lord Jesus Christ.
- What should we bring?
We can only come to God through the perfect sacrifice of the Lord
Jesus, which took place at Calvary when He died on the cross for our sins.
Nothing else, nothing extra will enable us to come near to God.
A continual Intercession
- Why does it say "He always lives to intercede for them"
Because the Lord Jesus is alive, His intercession avails to us always,
without breaks
- What can we learn from the fact that our Lord lives to intercede?
We can be sure that he is our advocate, bringing our requests. he is
our "barrister" pleading for our good. And more than with earthly
barrister we know that He is able to save, He is the best!
- What two offices of priest does the Lord Jesus have here?
Sacrificing and Interceding
- What is the contrast between the two?
Sacrificing: The Lord Jesus died once
for all
Interceding: The Lord Jesus lives for ever
- What does this verse teach about our Lord's intercession?
It is effective because He ever lives and is employed for our complete
salvation
