Then Jesus declared: "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me will never
go hungry, and he who believes in Me will never go thirsty."
The gospel according to John, chapter 6 verse 35 NIV
A powerful Picture.
- To whom were these words addressed?

- Why did the Lord Jesus say this?
Because they wanted to be fed by the Lord Jesus for ever.
- What did the crowds ask this?
They wanted a miraculous sign from the Lord Jesus.
- What miracle did they refer to?
The Manna that God gave during the 40 years in the desert.
- How does the Lord Jesus compare with Manna?
He is the bread of life.
- What is meant with "Bread of Life?"
Bread that gives and feeds life.

Bread gives you physical nourishment. I give you eternal life, fulfilling
your spiritual need.
- What do we learn from "I am the bread of life.?"
That the Lord Jesus alone can fulfill our spiritual needs.
- What can we learn from the picture bread?
That the live-giving qualities in our Lord Jesus are only available to us
by actual participation in Him.
- Do we literally (physically) eat and drink of the Lord Jesus?
As the Lord Jesus was using a picture, the eating and drinking should also
be understood to be a picture, not a real physical substance that we can
eat
- How is participating in Him contrasted with eating Manna?
Manna had to be eaten daily, the one who eats from the bread of life will
live for ever.
A double Invitation

"Come" and "Believe."
- What is meant by "Coming"
He that makes a movement of his soul in my direction.
- How do we know if our souls are moving to Christ?
If we want the things He offers us.
- What does He offer us?
Pardon of sins, peace with God, eternal life...
- What, then, is required to satisfy our souls?
A personal approach to the Lord Jesus.
- What is meant by "Believing?"
Continually placing our trust in Him.
- What connection is there between "coming" and "believing?"
Those who come to the Lord Jesus do so because they trust Him.
A Promise of Complete Satisfaction
- What is the result of "Coming" and "Believing?"
Those who do so will never be hungry or thirsty.
- What do hunger and thirst represent here?
The spiritual needs of the mankind.
- What does our Lord claim in this verse?
He claims that he alone can satisfy our spiritual needs.
- What kind of satisfaction does the Lord Jesus offer?
A permanent solution.
- How is the permanence expressed?
By the word "never."
